Our blurry year

I feel like this year flew by! So much happened and there is so much more to come. So many new and exciting changes and I'm really looking forward to our new adventures and being able to spend another year with this amazing baby and her new little buddies!

I resolve to cook more, spend more time outdoors, bond more with close friends and just slow way down so that next year I can look back and feel like I took it all in. We're grounded and it's time to be calm and carry on.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

New Winter Solstice Tradition

We used to celebrate the Winter Solstice as a rebirth to the coming year, letting go of the old and moving forward with the new. We've now decided to adopt a day of quiet, no lights, no computers, no tv, and as little electricity as possible (aside from heat). To light our evening on the longest night of the year, it will start with these little handmade lanterns from recycled materials found in our home.

from Amelia's first birthday banner bunting flags....reusage of the paper!

Folded in half I cut one more piece, then fold length wise and glue the edges. It's so easy.

I found this link which helped with the idea.

I'm going to pre-make dinner with finger foods for a little living room picnic. What is your/what will be your plans for the Winter Solstice?

pieces of our day

Our walk produced this piece of Christmas today. Who says it's the time of year for spending? I say "spend" it with family, creating, connecting, sharing and just enjoying each others' company.

The Perfect Storm

Happy 1st Birthday to my little one! I can't believe it's been a year, a year of new experiences, learning from each other, trials and tribulations and the best moments of our lives.

You were born on a stormy day and we celebrate your first on a stormy day. I think it's quite fitting, since you've been the perfect storm blowing into our lives with such a beautiful force and bringing a peaceful calm when the winds die down.

We have loved every moment of every day watching you grow and we can't wait for every new moment to come.

We'll be at the Shoreline Community School Craft Fair tomorrow from 10:30 to 3:30pm! and Victoria Rhythmic Gymnastics is having a table that has great canvas and other fabric bags! This is a part of a big fundraiser as they are traveling to Switzerland next Summer for the WORLD gymnaestrada! So come out and see us and get your christmas/cold weather shopping started early.

In other news, my friend Brooklyn made these gorgeous cards for my knits. I'm going under the name Pin Pom and I'm over the moon with how these turned out.

Fabric Buckets and a pumpkin

So much going on and the only way to get through it - is to knit and sew. Whipped up this hat just for fall.

I made these after looking at this DIY tutorial, but then forgot to get the tutorial and just winged it (which isn't a good idea when you don't sew all that well and one of the fabrics you're using is Jersey!)

a PICNIC lunch and a bath in the yard

photo borrowed from Yelp.ca

All I can say about Picnic is Lavender Lemonade and Vanilla Ice Tea: Bottomless. What more could you want on a summer day? Oh....maybe build your own sandwich? or pretty great service? Delicious baked goods? That's what we had today...and the last time I tried it too. I love this place, the perfect place to take a mama-to-be-any-day-now.

Then home to fight the teething blues:

Thank you summer, I'll miss you when you're gone.

found treasures

mystery craft item

Does anyone have any idea what this is? I found it when going through my grandmothers old craft box. My mom thinks it's for flowers? I'm thinking it's for needle felting. Too bad you can't google search using an image! The box says made in Japan and aside from the price tag....nothing more. It weighs a ton and that's a rubber base.

I love going through someone's craft box, it's so inspiring, especially my grandmothers. I'm pretty lucky to come from such a crafty family.

a gorgeous summer day, an honesty box and a project for fall.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon a flower cart with an honesty box in this little city. Our reward:

Then home for some napping and knitting and a new creation.

It's the "hooded capelette", but I'm trying to come up with a better name...any suggestions? it's something I've been thinking up for a while. Cute? or strange? we love it over here.

Top down:
Top up (cute overload):my fav:

We're going to love this in the fall and winter with lots of coverage.
